6 daily habits to lower your risk of cancer

Blog-img - 6 daily habits to lower your risk of cancer

The American Cancer Society has reported that half of all men and a third of all women in the United States will develop Cancer during their lifetimes. Although there are many forms of cancer, all forms of the disease begin with abnormal cells that grow out of control.

Unlike other illnesses that are eradicated by the body’s natural defense system, Cancer needs to be treated with powerful medical interventions. Unfortunately, most of the current cancer treatments available have some debilitating side effects.

ACUPUNCTURE and Oriental medicine have received much attention as an adjunctive therapy in Cancer treatments because they address many of the unpleasant symptoms and side effects that come up during and after Chemotherapy, Radiation, Biological therapy and Surgery.

If you are currently undergoing treatment for Cancer, cupuncture and Oriental medicine can provide real help by decreasing many of the side effects associated with conventional cancer treatments.

Some of the issues acupuncture can help with include:

Pain Management

Nausea

Stress

Fatigue

Depression and Anxiety

Dry Mouth

Night Sweats and Hot Flashes

Fluid Retention

Weight Maintenance

Acupuncture takes a holistic approach to health care and is particularly useful in providing Pain relief, reducing the impact of side effects, accelerating recovery, and improving overall quality of life.

According to the National Cancer Institute, Acupuncture may cause physical responses in Nerve cells, the Pituitary gland, and parts of the Brain. It is proposed that, by stimulating physical responses in these areas, Acupuncture positively affects Blood Pressure and Body temperature, boosts Immune System activity, and causes the body’s natural painkillers, such as Endorphins, to be released.

Please call me if you or your loved ones are going through Cancer treatment, as I can offer an Integrative Cancer Program.   310. 450. 9711.

Quit the tobacco, and don’t start if you haven’t already

It should be common sense now that smoking or chewing tobacco can lead to multiple types of Cancer. If you are trying to quit, you are not alone. Try joining a support group or making a plan for yourself to set goals for quitting. Facing Addiction is hard, but not using tobacco can save years of your life.

Healthy diet

A healthy, well-rounded diet can do wonders for lowering your risk of Cancer and overall wellbeing.  Cut out processed sugar and instead focus on whole foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Salmon is full of Omega-3 fatty acids that have been shown to help fight cancer. Other fish that can help reduce the risk of endometrial cancer in women include halibut, sardines and tuna.

Drink clean WATER without excessive Chlorine or Chemicals. Chlorine kills your natural Intestinal Bacteria, which supports your Immune System. To protect yourself, install a good FILTER on your kitchen faucet that removes chlorine and other chemicals.

Consume RAW Fruits and Vegetables to prevent Gastrointestinal Enzyme depletion and organ exhaustion. Try to eat one or more Raw foods per day and drink a freshly juiced fruit or vegetable juice once or twice a week.

Take a Digestive Enzyme supplement to restore Enzymes depleted by cooked foods, processed foods, caffeine, alcohol, and STRESS.

Fortify “Gut-Friendly” Bacteria with Prebiotics and Probiotics. You can get prebiotics naturally by eating Whey protein, Bananas, Onion, Garlic, barley, rye, and Artichokes. Some organic yogurt are full of live Bacteria strains that serve as probiotics, or talk to me about a good Probiotic supplement for you.

Eat at least 5-7 servings of Fruit and Vegetables daily, preferably ORGANIC, and definitely the most colorful you can find.

Avoid/minimize SUGAR and sweet foods in the diet, because SUGAR weakens the IMMUNE SYStEM. The herb Stevia, available at my office and health food stores, is a good/natural sugar substitute.

Use natural COX-2 inhibitors, such as Green Tea, Rosemary, Turmeric, Ginger, Oregano, and Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids.

Take protective Nutritional Supplements daily, including Antioxidants, Coenzyme Q10 (at least 50 mg), Selenium (125 mcg), Folic Acid (400 mcg), and Quercetin (200 mg). Please contact me to find the right one for your needs.
